GP Rating
GP Rating, a Government of India-approved Pre-Sea Training Program spanning six months, is your gateway to a career in the merchant navy. Recognized by the Directorate General of Shipping under the Ministry of Shipping, this training combines both theoretical and practical aspects of General Ship Knowledge and Marine Engineering Knowledge.
The successful completion of this program opens doors for trainees to join the merchant shipping industry either in the Deck or Engineering Department as Trainee GP Ratings.
GP, or General Purpose, Ratings are versatile professionals trained in a wide array of tasks encompassing both the Deck and Engine Room domains. They are capable of undertaking responsibilities related to Seamanship, Cargo Handling, Deck Maintenance, as well as the Operation and Maintenance of Machinery. This unique skill set ensures the adaptability and employability of Indian seafarers on a global scale.
Our GP Rating course is a six-month residential program, accessible immediately after completing the 10th grade. Approved by DG Shipping, Government of India, it serves as a launchpad for your career in the Merchant Navy as either a Deck or Engine Rating. The course encompasses a comprehensive curriculum, including the study of Deck and Engineering subjects, alongside practical training in various aspects of the seafaring profession. This includes swimming, physical drills, workshop training, rope and mast climbing, lifesaving appliance usage, fire-fighting exercises, and ship visits.
